The one where it all started
If you’re new here, hello. If you’re not, also hello, but you already know how this goes.
For those who don’t know me, I previously had a podcast called That’s a Free Bee. You can go back and listen to it if you want. I wouldn’t strongly recommend it if you’re brand new here. Not because it’s bad, but because there’s probably going to be a fair bit of repetition. And nobody needs that much Diggy all at once.
The Origin of That’s a Free Bee
That’s a Free Bee started as an experiment. You know the kind. The “you should start a podcast” experiment. Everyone has that friend who says:
“You’ve got loads of stories, you should totally start a podcast.”
And then you start one… and realise you might not have quite as many stories as you thought. Or that your life, on paper, is less thrilling than you’d hoped.
As it turns out, my life can be interesting. Sometimes. Other times, not so much.
There were weeks where I struggled for content. I’d tell an old story. Dig something up from the past. Stretch a minor inconvenience into a full anecdote. You know, podcasting.
But here’s the thing: I really enjoyed doing it.
It became a kind of therapy for me.
When the Show Got a Life of Its Own
Over time, That’s a Free Bee grew legs and wandered off.
I started creating segments. Then I had to fill those segments every week. And suddenly the show wasn’t what I originally wanted it to be.
What I wanted was a podcast with no rules:
Two minutes long? Fine.
An hour long? Also fine.
No schedule? Perfect.
But once the structure crept in, so did the pressure.
I decided that when I hit episode 100 of That’s a Free Bee, I’d stop… and start something new.
Enter: Hey, It’s Diggy
Which brings us here.
This podcast is called Hey, It’s Diggy.
I’m Diggy.
That’s why it’s called that.
I may or may not have explained that already.
This first episode is really just me introducing myself:
Who I am
What I’ve done before
Why this podcast exists
And for those of you who followed me over from That’s a Free Bee: yes, there will be some repetition. It’s unavoidable. I’ve got stories I like, and I want to tell them better this time. More cohesively. With endings.
I have a habit of wandering off mid-story, going down a tangent, and occasionally forgetting to actually finish the thing I started talking about. This is me trying to fix that. Slightly.
A Bit About Me
My name is Diggy. Still is.
I have two children: Fina and Tobias, who are 10 and 12 at the time of recording.
I did briefly consider not mentioning them or using their names, but honestly? That became exhausting. The information is already out there, my social media is public, and I grew up in an era where people didn’t really think about that stuff.
I’ll talk about them, but I won’t share anything too personal. That feels like the right balance.
I also have a wife, Anne Marie. I probably won’t tell many stories about her unless she’s already involved, because she didn’t sign up to be content. If she ever wants to start her own podcast, she can tell her side of things.
So… What Is This Show About?
Short answer: nothing.
Long answer: it’s about whatever I feel like talking about.
Stories from my past.
Things that happen day to day.
Stuff I find online.
Jokes.
News articles.
Reddit posts.
Anything that catches my attention.
The point is simple: if you’ve got nothing to do, put this on for a bit. Let me talk at you. Maybe you’ll hear a story you like. Maybe you’ll just enjoy the background noise. Either way, that’s the deal.
The original idea behind That’s a Free Bee was “a look into the life of a complete stranger on the internet.” I’m not really anonymous anymore, so that part’s gone. Fun fact: the show did start anonymously. I’d completely forgotten about that.
A Quick Note for Old Listeners
If you listened to the final episode of That’s a Free Bee, you might remember I said Hey, It’s Diggy would launch at the start of January.
It did not.
It is now the middle of February. Oops.
Life happened. Things got in the way.
I also said I’d kick things off with an awards-style episode based on the media I’d consumed over the year: TV, films, comics, all that good stuff.
By the time mid-February rolled around, it felt a bit late for that. Yes, it’s only a month, but I’d rather do it properly. So instead, Diggy’s 2026 will land at the end of the year, with more time, more effort, and better quality.
